Thanks for the comments everyone As for the benefits of 4 poles vs 3, I'm no gearbox expert but it should spread the load out better within the gearbox so less chance of wear on the teeth of the housing/small cogs?

the four cogs are definitely an advantage over three, except for a slight increase in friction. Also the cog posts being embedded in metal will eliminate the possibility of collaps, I've see a couple of photos showing this problem.

All that's left now is to know is how much is it going to hurt the pocket.
